Middlesex County is a major Central Jersey transportation hub, connecting New Brunswick, Edison, Woodbridge, Perth Amboy, South Amboy, Dunellen, Old Bridge, East Brunswick, South Brunswick, Carteret, and surrounding towns to New York City, Newark, Trenton, the Jersey Shore, and the broader Northeast Corridor.

NJ TRANSIT rail service in Middlesex County centers on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, and Raritan Valley Line, with key stations including Metropark, New Brunswick, Edison, Jersey Avenue, Metuchen, Perth Amboy, South Amboy, Woodbridge, Avenel, and Dunellen.

South Amboy ferry service, Old Bridge Airport, Newark Liberty, the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, Route 1, Route 9, Route 18, Route 27, Route 35, Route 130, and I-287 make Middlesex County one of New Jersey's strongest road and transit crossroads.

Middlesex County Area Transit / Local Shuttles

For New Brunswick, Rutgers & Hospitals

Use New Brunswick Station for downtown, Rutgers, State Theatre, George Street Playhouse, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Saint Peter's University Hospital, and nearby restaurants. Check parking and shuttle options before major events.

For Edison, Metuchen & Metropark

Metropark is often the easiest rail station for park-and-ride commuters, while Metuchen and Edison are better for local downtown or neighborhood access.

For Perth Amboy, South Amboy & the Bayshore

Use North Jersey Coast Line stations for rail access. South Amboy also has Manhattan ferry service, which can be useful for weekday commute planning.

For Old Bridge, Monroe & South Brunswick

Driving and commuter bus options are especially important in the southern county towns, where direct rail access is more limited. Nearby stations such as South Amboy, New Brunswick, Metropark, and Princeton Junction may be useful depending on location.
