About Allamuchy Township
Rural character, preserved land, established residential communities and outdoor recreation define this northwestern New Jersey township.
Allamuchy Township was incorporated on April 4, 1873 from portions of Independence Township. The township's name is associated with the Lenni Lenape and is commonly interpreted as meaning a "place within the hills." Today, Allamuchy includes the Village of Allamuchy and the Panther Valley community while retaining large areas of preserved open space.
Interstate 80 and County Route 517 provide regional access, with Hackettstown immediately to the south and Morris and Sussex county communities nearby. Allamuchy's setting makes it especially attractive to residents and visitors interested in hiking, mountain biking, fishing, historic sites and a quieter Warren County environment.
