Garage & yard sales in Bergenfield

Bergenfield requires a permit for garage and yard sales. Current Borough guidance limits the number and duration of sales and regulates signs.

A property is limited to two two-day garage-sale permits per year.

24 hoursSign removal

Sale signs must be removed within 24 hours after the sale.

Sign placement is restricted.Garage-sale signs may not be placed on Borough trees, telephone poles or Borough signs such as stop, school-zone or bus signs. Signs should be free-standing and easily removable; current Borough guidance provides a $25 fine per improperly remaining sign.

The Borough's 2026 town-wide garage sale is scheduled from 9 AM–5 PM both days, with no rain date.

Bergen County retains New Jersey's Sunday Closing Law for covered merchandise. Sellers planning a Sunday event should verify how current law applies to the items being offered.
