Some New Jersey communities operate their own municipal electric systems instead of receiving electric distribution service from one of the large investor-owned utilities. New Jersey's state electric-territory data identifies the following municipal systems:
For a municipal electric system, use the municipality's official emergency or electric-department information. Service boundaries do not always follow a simple town-name rule, so confirm your provider from your electric bill when uncertain.
New Jersey's electric service territories include PSE&G, JCP&L, Atlantic City Electric, Rockland Electric, Sussex Rural Electric Cooperative and municipal electric systems. The quickest confirmation is the utility name shown on your electric bill.
Treat every downed wire as energized. Keep people and pets away. Do not touch a wire, a tree, fence, vehicle, puddle or other object that may be in contact with it.
Use portable generators outdoors only, well away from windows, doors and vents. Never run a generator in a house, garage or other enclosed space. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and use properly installed equipment to prevent dangerous backfeed onto utility lines.
During an extended outage, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as practical and follow official local emergency information for warming centers, cooling centers, charging locations and other storm resources.
NJTGO is an independent New Jersey information guide and is not affiliated with the listed electric utilities, internet providers or mobile carriers. Outage maps, network-status information, restoration estimates and reporting systems are maintained by the respective providers.
