The main Chadwick Beach neighborhood lies on the barrier peninsula along Route 35. It provides the classic shore setting: Atlantic Ocean beaches to the east, Barnegat Bay to the west, residential streets, seasonal homes and access to Chadwick Beach Park.
Chadwick Beach & Chadwick Beach Island
Two closely connected shore communities in Toms River Township: Chadwick Beach occupies the narrow barrier peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay, while Chadwick Beach Island extends into the bay across the Strickland Boulevard bridge.
Welcome to Chadwick
Chadwick Beach and Chadwick Beach Island form a distinctive residential shore community north of Ocean Beach and south of the Normandy Beach area. Although many properties use a Lavallette, NJ 08735 mailing address, the community is part of Toms River Township in Ocean County.
NJTGO groups Chadwick Beach and Chadwick Beach Island together because they share the Chadwick identity, community organization and access to the same stretch of the Jersey Shore. At the same time, the island has a very different physical character — with lagoons, docks and Barnegat Bay surrounding much of the neighborhood.
Chadwick Beach and Chadwick Beach Island
The names are often used together, but they describe two physically different parts of the community.
Chadwick Beach Island sits west of the main barrier peninsula in Barnegat Bay. It is reached by the Strickland Boulevard bridge and is especially associated with lagoon-front and bayfront homes, docks, boating and quieter waterfront streets.
From the Atlantic to Barnegat Bay
Chadwick's ocean side provides sandy Jersey Shore beaches, swimming, surf conditions and sunrise views. Beach access is managed through the local community association and badge system.
The bay side is central to Chadwick's identity. Chadwick Beach Island adds lagoons, docks, boating, fishing, crabbing, paddling and wide sunset views across the water.
Chadwick Beach & Yacht Club
The Chadwick Beach & Yacht Club identifies itself as the official membership organization for both Chadwick Beach and Chadwick Beach Island. The organization manages community membership, beach badges, events and other local programs.
The organization lists seasonal and weekly badges as part of its current beach-access program. Homeowner membership and badge rules can change from year to year, so owners, renters and visitors should always confirm current requirements directly.
Chadwick Beach Park
Toms River Township maintains Chadwick Beach Park on Strickland Boulevard. Township facility information lists recreation amenities including:
Basketball
Lighted basketball courts provide a recreation option away from the beach.
Tennis
Tennis courts add another active option for residents and visitors in the Chadwick area.
Shuffleboard
Shuffleboard courts reflect the community-oriented recreational character of the shore neighborhood.
Tot Lot
A playground/tot-lot area gives families with younger children an alternative to beach activities.
The Chadwick Beach Island Bridge
The Strickland Boulevard bridge crosses the Inward Thorofare of Barnegat Bay and provides the only vehicular access to Chadwick Beach Island. Ocean County's bridge project information says the island includes approximately 360 homes as well as the Chadwick Island Marina.
The existing bridge is planned for replacement. As of 2026, Ocean County and its transportation partners are in the Final Design and right-of-way phase, currently scheduled through 2028. The project schedule identifies construction beginning in fall 2028, with no lane closings planned during summer months.
Visiting Chadwick
Beach Days
Chadwick Beach is primarily a residential private-beach community rather than a boardwalk resort. Confirm badge and guest rules before visiting.
Vacation Rentals
Both Chadwick Beach and Chadwick Beach Island have seasonal rental homes. Confirm whether a property is on the main barrier peninsula or the island before booking.
Boating & Bay Life
Chadwick Beach Island is particularly attractive to visitors and homeowners interested in docks, lagoons, boating, fishing and Barnegat Bay recreation.
Quiet Shore Setting
The community is more residential and neighborhood-oriented than nearby boardwalk destinations, making it a strong fit for traditional family shore stays.
Route 35 is the primary north-south corridor through the main Chadwick Beach area. Summer traffic can become heavy on weekends and rental changeover days.
