Galloway Township stretches from established residential neighborhoods and university corridors to historic Smithville, Oceanville, Leeds Point and protected coastal habitat. The municipality predates the United States: the original township was established by Royal Decree on April 4, 1774. Today it is one of Atlantic County's largest population centers and a gateway to both the Jersey Shore and the Pinelands.

Government
Galloway Township uses a Council–Manager form of government. As of September 2026, Anthony Coppola serves as mayor; the Township Council also includes RJ Amato III, Rich Clute, Tony DiPietro, Rosemary Goldberg, Christine Jordan and Joyce Pratt. Municipal offices are at 300 E Jimmie Leeds Road.

The PK–8 district operates six schools: Galloway Preschool at Absegami, Arthur Rann, Reeds Road, Roland Rogers, Smithville Elementary and Galloway Township Middle School.Absegami High School
