Garage & Estate Sales

Harding regulates private sales through its municipal code, so residents should confirm the current licensing, timing and sign requirements with the Township Clerk before advertising a garage, yard, tag or estate sale. The Clerk's office is at 21 Blue Mill Road in New Vernon.

Do not rely on a neighboring town's rules. Harding and Chatham Township are separate municipalities, so a Green Village address should first be checked to determine which municipality governs the property.

Beginning March 1, 2026, Harding Township's official website became the primary publication mechanism for legal notices under New Jersey's electronic-publication law. NJTGO classifieds are not a substitute for legally required municipal notices.

Pets, Dog Licensing & Animal Control

Annual Dog LicenseHarding requires dogs age seven months or older to be licensed. The Health Department states that annual licenses are due by January 31.

Rabies RequirementRabies immunity must remain valid through October 31 of the license year to qualify for the license.

Late FeeThe Township currently states that a $10 late fee per dog begins March 1.

Animal ControlHarding uses Animal Control Solutions, LLC. Residents should first contact Harding Township Police at 973-455-0500 ext. 0 for animal-control issues.

Green Village spans both Harding and Chatham Township. NJTGO can route visitors searching Green Village to the Harding guide, but any classified tied to a physical address—garage sale, lost pet, roommate notice, property item pickup or community event—should identify the actual municipality whenever possible.

Do not publish Social Security numbers, bank details, driver's-license numbers or other sensitive identity data.
Never send or repeat verification codes to a stranger.
Be suspicious of buyers who overpay and ask for a refund.
Avoid gift-card, cryptocurrency and unusual wire-transfer requests.
Meet in a safe public location when practical.
For high-value items, verify payment before releasing the item.
Remove or update a listing promptly when it is no longer active.
