Lebanon Borough was incorporated in 1926 from Clinton Township. Its center developed around the Central Railroad of New Jersey and the community was known at different times as Jacksonville, Lebanonville and Lebanonville Depot before the name Lebanon became established.

The borough operates its local elementary campus. For the 2026–27 school year, the Board approved sending sixth-grade students along with seventh- and eighth-grade students to the Clinton-Glen Gardner School District.
For 2026–27, Lebanon Borough has an approved send/receive arrangement with Clinton-Glen Gardner for grades 6 through 8. Some district webpages still describe the local campus as K–6, so families should use current enrollment notices for placement details.
Lebanon Borough students attend North Hunterdon High School through the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District.

100 Brunswick Avenue
One of the borough's defining historic landmarks. The congregation's records date to the eighteenth century and the church anchors the historic center near the park.
Lebanon's development is closely tied to the Central Railroad of New Jersey. Rail service remains part of daily life through the NJ Transit station.
Cherry Street / Central Avenue
NJ Transit Raritan Valley Line service gives the borough direct rail access toward regional employment and transportation centers.
Nearby recreation
Round Valley Recreation Area is nearby, not inside Lebanon Borough. Its Lebanon 08833 mailing address can be misleading. Visitors can reach the reservoir easily from the borough, but NJTGO treats it as a Clinton Township destination rather than a Lebanon Borough park.
Nearby swimming, boating, fishing, hiking and camping around the reservoir.
Clinton, High Bridge and other central Hunterdon communities are a short drive away for trails, shopping and dining.
US 22, I-78 and nearby Route 31 make Lebanon a convenient starting point for exploring north-central Hunterdon County.
