About Normandy Shores

Normandy Shores is one of the smaller residential communities along the northern Toms River barrier island. Local addresses are commonly associated with Normandy Beach, NJ 08739, but Normandy Shores has its own Beach Club, its own community history and a distinct neighborhood identity.

The community does not have a large commercial center of its own. Its strength is residential shore life: private homes, beach access, family traditions and easy proximity to the Route 35 restaurants and businesses of Normandy Beach and Silver Beach.

Why this is one all-in-one NJTGO page: Normandy Shores has enough unique history, beach, rental and real-estate material for a strong destination guide, but separate restaurant, shopping and jobs pages would mostly duplicate neighboring Normandy Beach. Keeping everything here creates a more useful community page.

From Pound Fishing to a Shore Community

Normandy Shores has one of the more unusual histories among the Dover Beaches North communities. Normandy Shores Beach Club traces the site to an early-1900s pound-fishing enterprise. Horses pulled fishing boats from the Chadwick Fishery, and the catch was moved by railway to the Fulton Fish Market along what is now the Route 35 corridor.

Early 1900s

The area operated as a pound-fishing enterprise, tying the future neighborhood directly to the working maritime history of the Jersey Shore.

1950

The Chadwick Fishery was owned by Otto Peterson, Jack Jacobsen, Tom and Lester Hayes and Sara Holloway. Their names survive locally through Peterson Lane, Jacobsen Lane and Hayes Court.

Later 1950s

As pound fishing became less viable, Jacob Jacobsen Jr. divided the surrounding land into residential parcels and named the new community Normandy Shores.

1970s

The remaining beach land was sold to the property owners, leading to the formation of Normandy Shores Beach Club.

A piece of the fishery remains in the modern landscape. Normandy Shores Beach Club's history identifies the old fishery location as the site that is now occupied by Blue Sushi in nearby Normandy Beach, creating a direct physical link between the area's working-waterfront past and today's Route 35 corridor.

Normandy Shores Beach Club

Normandy Shores Beach Club is the central community organization for the neighborhood. It maintains the beach program, member and renter badge systems, community rules and seasonal traditions.

Private Community Beach

Beach use is governed by Normandy Shores Beach Club rules. Members, renters and daily visitors should follow current badge and beach-access requirements.

Member Governance

The Beach Club is managed by a Board of Governors and maintains association documents, beach rules, renter forms and community information for property owners.

Beach Maintenance

Community ownership makes beach care, maintenance and safety a shared neighborhood responsibility rather than a municipal beach operation.

Beach access can change from season to season. Normandy Shores is not a Toms River municipal beach. Visitors and renters should confirm current Beach Club rules and badge procedures before planning a beach day.

2026 Beach Badges

Normandy Shores Beach Club requires beach badges to be visibly worn or displayed by everyone age 12 and older while on the beach. Member badges and renter badges are handled separately.

Daily Badge $15 Current 2026 posted daily rate
Member Household 8 Badges included for households that pay annual membership dues
Additional Member Badge $50 Up to four additional badges under current rules

Member badges are not to be used by renters. Renters must complete the current Rental Beach Badge form and obtain the proper renter badges for their stay.

Rental-property requirement: Normandy Shores Beach Club states that rented homes must have an inspection and rental Certificate of Occupancy issued by Toms River Township before renter beach badges can be issued. A copy is to be provided to the Beach Club Board of Governors.

Community Life & Summer Traditions

Normandy Shores Beach Club maintains a neighborhood-oriented social calendar rather than operating only as a beach-access organization.

Summer Kickoff Cocktail Party

The community's seasonal kickoff gives longtime and newer neighbors a chance to reconnect at the start of summer.

Beach Picnic

A community picnic on the beach combines children's and teen activities, music and a bring-your-own picnic format.

Memorial Fund

The Beach Club maintains a memorial fund supported by donations in memory of association members. Funds are used for lifesaving equipment and supplies for lifeguards.

Visiting Normandy Shores & Vacation Rentals

Traditional lodging: visitors who prefer a motel or inn can look south to Lavallette, while Normandy Beach has a larger vacation-rental inventory immediately nearby.

Shopping & Services Nearby

Normandy Shores is residential, so most shopping and property services come from surrounding Route 35 communities. That is one reason NJTGO keeps business information on this all-in-one page rather than creating a thin Normandy Shores shopping directory.

Normandy Shores Real Estate

Normandy Shores real estate is one of the strongest reasons to give the community its own NJTGO destination page. The area includes ocean-oriented homes, interior shore houses and waterfront properties influenced by the narrow barrier-island setting.

Ocean-Oriented Homes
  • Confirm Beach Club membership and access
  • Review dune proximity and coastal exposure
  • Check flood zone and elevation
  • Obtain homeowners and flood-insurance quotes
  • Verify permits for major renovations or rebuilding
Bayside & Waterfront Property
  • Inspect bulkheads and docks where applicable
  • Verify marine permits
  • Check water depth and boating access
  • Budget for marine maintenance
  • Review flood and storm exposure
Beach Club Due Diligence
  • Review current bylaws and beach rules
  • Confirm membership obligations
  • Understand badge privileges
  • Ask about renter requirements
  • Review community documents before closing
Vacation-Rental Ownership
  • Confirm Toms River rental eligibility
  • Obtain required annual seasonal inspection/certification
  • Follow Normandy Shores renter-badge rules
  • Carry appropriate rental insurance
  • Budget for cleaning, turnover and seasonal maintenance
Mailing address versus municipality: verify every property's municipality, block and lot through official tax and Township records. A Normandy Beach-style mailing address does not by itself determine the governing municipality or community association.

Normandy Shores Community Classifieds

Because Normandy Shores is small, community classifieds belong directly on this page rather than in a separate classified section.

No Normandy Shores community classifieds are currently posted.

Appropriate listings can include beach equipment, bicycles, shore-house furnishings, garage sales, boating accessories, lost-and-found notices, community announcements and wanted items.

Submit a Classified
Commercial promotion is separate. A resident selling a used beach cart belongs in Classifieds; a company repeatedly selling or renting beach equipment belongs in NJTGO's advertising program.

Jobs & Seasonal Work

Normandy Shores itself has a limited employment base. The practical job market is the surrounding barrier island, including Normandy Beach businesses, beach operations, vacation rentals, property services, marine work and the larger Toms River employment area.

Typical Shore Work

  • Food service and markets
  • Retail and customer service
  • Vacation-rental cleaning and turnover
  • Property maintenance
  • Painting and home services
  • Marine and dock work nearby

Beach & Community Work

The Beach Club's history and memorial program reference its lifeguard operation. Seasonal staffing needs can vary, so prospective applicants should use the Beach Club's official contact information for current opportunities rather than relying on old postings.
