Classifieds & Community Marketplace

Allendale Classifieds is designed for neighborhood-scale buying, selling, sharing and community notices within the Borough of Allendale.

Use this page for personal listings such as household items, wanted and free items, garage and yard sales, lost-and-found notices, pet notices, lessons, roommates, celebrations and community announcements. Employment, recurring business promotion and real-estate advertising belong on their dedicated NJTGO pages.

A neighborhood marketplace—not a public directory of home addresses. A general location such as Downtown, West Crescent, Franklin Turnpike, Brookside Avenue or “near Crestwood” is usually enough to help another resident judge distance. Exact pickup addresses can be exchanged privately after a buyer and seller agree to meet.

Current NJTGO classified listings

No user-submitted Allendale classified listings are currently displayed. NJTGO does not invent marketplace advertisements to fill empty categories. Approved local submissions can be added as they are received.

Garage & yard sales in Allendale

Allendale regulates garage, yard, estate, rummage and similar casual sales. A Borough garage-sale license is generally required before conducting an advertised residential sale.

$10License fee

The Borough code currently sets the garage-sale license fee at $10.

5 daysApply in advance

The written application must be filed with the Borough Clerk at least five days before the sale begins.

2 per yearAnnual limit

No more than two garage sales may be conducted at the same dwelling or parcel during a calendar year.

9 AM–7 PMPermitted hours

Garage sales may be conducted only between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

Maximum length

A single license may cover no more than three consecutive calendar days.

Display the license

The issued license must be prominently displayed at the property throughout the sale.

Goods must be personal property

Items cannot be purchased or brought onto the premises specifically for resale under the residential garage-sale rules.

Garage-sale signs are regulated. Allendale allows one on-premises sign and up to two off-premises signs on a municipal right-of-way, subject to size and timing rules. Signs may not be attached to telephone poles, street signs, trees or fences, and they must be removed promptly after the sale.
Town-Wide Garage Sale · Sunday, October 4, 2026

The Borough approved the Allendale Woman's Club annual Town-Wide Garage Sale for Sunday, October 4, 2026. Participants in the Borough-approved event do not need a separate individual garage-sale license, although the other garage-sale rules still apply.

Town-wide sales count toward the annual limit

The code provides that a sale held as part of an approved Borough-wide sale still counts toward the maximum of two garage sales at the same property in a calendar year.

Small-item exception

The garage-sale chapter does not apply when a person advertises five or fewer specifically named or described personal-property items.

Confirm the final event details. The official Borough resolution identifies the 2026 Town-Wide Garage Sale as Sunday, October 4. Organizer registration materials and maps can change, so participants and shoppers should verify the final schedule before the event.

Lost pets & animal notices

A community post can help reunite a lost pet, but owners should also use Allendale's official animal-control and public-safety channels.

Dog & Cat Licensing

Allendale requires both dogs and cats to be licensed. Current rabies documentation is required for registration.

Tyco Animal Control

Allendale contracts with Tyco Animal Control for stray animals, injured or sick wildlife, animal bites, aggressive animals and wildlife posing an immediate safety concern.

After-Hours Help

For animal emergencies after normal business hours, weekends or holidays, contact the Allendale Police Department at 201-825-1900.

For a lost animal: include a clear photo, general location, date last seen and safe contact method, but avoid publishing unnecessary private household details. Also contact animal control and the police when appropriate.

Marketplace & transaction safety

Meet in a Public Place

For portable items, use a well-lit public meeting location when practical rather than immediately giving a stranger your home address.

Bring Another Person

For higher-value transactions or home pickups, consider having another adult present and tell someone where the transaction is taking place.

Protect Personal Information

Do not publish Social Security numbers, banking information, identity documents or unnecessary household details.

Verify Ownership

For vehicles, electronics and high-value property, verify title, ownership or serial-number information before completing the transaction.

Watch for Payment Scams

Be suspicious of overpayment checks, gift-card requests, cryptocurrency demands and unusual refund arrangements.

Stop When Something Feels Wrong

Pressure to ignore normal precautions, unexpected changes to the meeting plan or requests for sensitive information are reasons to end the transaction.

Allendale Police Department For non-emergency police assistance, call 201-825-1900. Police headquarters is staffed 24 hours a day. Call 911 for an immediate emergency.

How to prepare a useful classified

Use a Clear Title

“Oak dining table — West Crescent area” is more useful than simply “For sale.”

Describe the Item

Include condition, size, age, quantity, model and important defects or missing parts.

Name the General Area

Use a general Allendale location rather than publishing an exact home address.

Include the Price

State an asking price, “free,” “wanted,” or whether reasonable offers will be considered.

Use Safe Contact Information

Provide only the contact method needed to arrange the transaction.

Remove Old Posts

Once an item is sold, found or no longer available, ask NJTGO to remove the listing.

What NJTGO classifieds will not accept

To keep the marketplace appropriate for a local town-guide audience, NJTGO may reject, edit or remove listings that are unsafe, unlawful, deceptive or better suited to another section.

Use the right NJTGO section. Recurring business promotion belongs on Business & Shopping, employment openings belong on Jobs, and homes, apartments and property advertising belong on Real Estate.

Submitting an Allendale classified

A useful submission should include a concise title, category, accurate description, general Allendale location, asking price if applicable and a safe contact method. Garage-sale notices should also include dates, hours and rain information.

Be Specific

Give enough detail for another resident to decide whether the item or notice is relevant.

Keep It Local

The listing should have a genuine Allendale connection and should not be bulk commercial advertising disguised as a personal post.

Keep It Current

Tell NJTGO when an item is sold, a pet is found or a notice has expired.
