Brielle, New Jersey

Brielle is a small Monmouth County riverfront borough where residential neighborhoods meet the Manasquan River, a working recreational waterfront, marinas, fishing businesses, local shops and community institutions. The borough has no Atlantic Ocean frontage, but its nearly four miles of river, creek and Glimmer Glass shoreline give it a distinctive maritime character.

History & Local Character

Brielle developed from the area once known as Union Landing and became an independent borough in 1919 after separating from Wall Township. The borough's history is closely connected to the Manasquan River, fishing, boating and waterfront industry. The Borough Historian and Union Landing Historical Society preserve local history, and the Brielle Public Library carries the community history volume Union Landing Revisited.

A river town rather than an oceanfront beach town: Brielle's official history notes that it has no ocean frontage. Its water identity comes from the Manasquan River, Debbie's Creek and Glimmer Glass.
