About Clark
Clark developed from land that was once part of Rahway and became an independent municipality in 1864. The township was named for Abraham Clark, a New Jersey signer of the Declaration of Independence. Today Clark is a compact suburban community of about 4.5 square miles with established neighborhoods, a busy Raritan Road commercial corridor, major Central Avenue retail and large employment sites near Terminal Avenue.
Clark borders Scotch Plains and Westfield to the west; Cranford and Winfield to the north; Linden and Rahway to the east; and Edison and Woodbridge Township in Middlesex County to the south. These close municipal boundaries make address verification particularly important for local-directory listings.

Historic Clark
Dr. William Robinson Plantation Museum

This rare post-medieval English-style house was built around 1690 and is listed on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places. It preserves artifacts and architectural features tied to Dr. William Robinson, an early physician and landowner.
2026 restoration work
The Township has an active historic-restoration program for the Robinson house, including roof, timber-framing, masonry and finish work. Public access can be affected by restoration schedules, so check current information before visiting.

Clark Reservoir
The Clark Reservoir is a major Union County open-space resource spanning land in Clark, Scotch Plains and Westfield. Union County’s improvement plan includes environmental work plus new or improved walking paths, non-motorized boating features and a fishing pier. Because the park spans municipal boundaries, NJTGO does not describe the entire reservoir property as being solely inside Clark.
Getting around
The Garden State Parkway crosses Clark and provides quick regional road access. Raritan Road, Central Avenue, Westfield Avenue and Madison Hill Road are important local routes. Clark does not have its own NJ TRANSIT rail station; nearby rail stations include Rahway, Cranford, Linden and Westfield, depending on destination and commute pattern.
