History & Local Character

Deal was incorporated on March 7, 1898, after separating from Ocean Township, and that the borough was originally larger, extending between Deal Lake and Takanassee Lake. Deal’s official site describes the borough as being situated on the Jersey Shore in Monmouth County and says the community was settled by Europeans in the mid-1660s and named after an English carpenter from Deal, Kent.
