Local history
Delanco developed as a river and rail community. The municipal name combines references to the Delaware River and Rancocas Creek. The township's current name dates to the 1926 referendum and state incorporation record.
The former Zurbrugg property on Delaware Avenue remains an important part of local history; the township later retained adjacent waterfront land for public use.
Transportation has long shaped Delanco, from Delaware River access and the Rancocas crossing to today's NJ TRANSIT River LINE.
Delanco is marking its 100th anniversary in 2026 with community programming tied to the township's 1926 municipal name and incorporation.
