Local history
Delran Township was created by the New Jersey Legislature on February 12, 1880, from part of Cinnaminson Township. The name combines references to the Delaware River and Rancocas Creek, the waterways that helped shape early settlement and transportation.
Markers identify places such as Trinity Episcopal Church, the former Bridgeboro Grammar School site, Fairview Christian Cemetery, Methodist Cemetery, Delran Fire Company No. 1 and other community landmarks.
Bridgeboro and surrounding farm areas predate the township and remain part of Delran's historical geography.
Historic roads and later highway development helped shift Delran from a largely rural landscape toward today's residential and commercial township.
