Edison is one of New Jersey's largest and most diverse suburban townships, with major employment centers, two NJ Transit rail stations, regional shopping, extensive Asian and South Asian commercial districts, established neighborhoods and nationally significant Thomas Edison history.
The township takes its name from inventor Thomas Alva Edison, whose Menlo Park research laboratory pioneered the organized industrial-research model and produced landmark work in electric lighting, sound recording and power distribution.
