About Glassboro
Glassboro is a compact Gloucester County borough with an outsized regional role. Its roots are in South Jersey glassmaking, while modern Glassboro is shaped by Rowan University, an active downtown, major commercial corridors and a steady calendar of public events.
The community traces its name to the glass industry that began here in 1779. Glassboro was incorporated as a borough in 1920. Rowan University grew from the New Jersey State Normal School at Glassboro, opened in 1923, and today brings thousands of students, employees and visitors into the borough.
Why Glassboro feels bigger than its borders: Rowan University and the Rowan Boulevard redevelopment create a walkable college-town core, while Delsea Drive, High Street, Main Street, Mullica Hill Road and William Dalton Drive support substantial shopping, healthcare and dining districts.
