Garage Sales: No Permit or Fee

Jefferson Township has removed the garage-sale permitting process. There is currently no garage-sale permit and no permit fee, but the ordinance's operating rules remain in effect.

Location rule: Garage/lawn/attic/rummage sales generally must be held on residentially zoned property. Bona fide charitable, educational, cultural and governmental organizations have specific exceptions under the ordinance.

For questions or suspected violations, the Township directs residents to Code Enforcement at 973-208-3623.

Dog & Cat LicensingTownship licensing questions: 973-208-6120. Dogs of licensing age must be licensed; current rabies requirements apply.

Lost Pet PostsInclude a recent photo, date, general area and a safe contact method. Do not post unnecessary personal information.

Found / Injured AnimalsUse animal-control or police resources for unsafe, injured or aggressive animals rather than relying only on a social post.

Official Legal Notices Are Separate

Beginning March 1, 2026, Jefferson Township uses its official municipal website as the primary electronic location for legal notices. Public hearings, bids, formal land-use notices and other legally required notices should be checked there rather than treated as community classifieds.
