History & Historic Places

Before the city took its present name, the Delaware River crossing was associated with Coryell's Ferry. A bridge connected the river towns in the early 19th century, and the community became Lambertville after the post office was established in honor of John Lambert. Lambertville was incorporated as a town in 1849 and later as a city in 1872. Canal, railroad and manufacturing activity drove much of its 19th-century growth.
