From Stiles Corners to Maple Shade
Local settlement dates to the 1680s, when the area was part of early Chester Township. The Main Street corridor grew along the road between Mount Holly and the Camden ferries, and the Camden and Burlington County Railroad brought a station to the community in the 19th century. The hamlet became known as Stiles Corners and Stiles Station before the Maple Shade name took hold. Moorestown separated from Chester Township in 1922, leaving today's Maple Shade as the remaining municipality; voters officially adopted the Maple Shade Township name on November 6, 1945.
