Welcome to Montague Township
Montague is New Jersey’s northernmost municipality, tucked into the tri-state corner where New Jersey meets New York and Pennsylvania. Much of the township is protected landscape, giving Montague an unusually strong mix of Appalachian Trail hiking, Delaware River scenery, historic sites, lakes, campgrounds and small-town services.

High Point State Park
The High Point landscape reaches 1,803 feet at New Jersey’s highest elevation. The broader park includes trails, lakes, camping, picnicking and views across three states.
Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail crosses the northern Sussex highlands and gives Montague exceptional access to long-distance and day hiking.
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Much of western Montague lies within or beside this National Park Service landscape, including river access, Old Mine Road and historic sites.

Historic Montague
Montague was established by royal patent in 1759 and incorporated in 1798. The township’s historic river corridor preserves reminders of early farming, transportation and community life.

Nelden-Roberts Stonehouse

Montague Grange

The local Grange was founded in 1904 and the historic hall dates to 1906.
Minisink Dutch Reformed Church

Congregation dating to the colonial era with a historic cemetery and 19th-century church building.
Delaware River & Tri-State Setting
Montague sits directly across the Delaware River from Pennsylvania and just south of Port Jervis, New York. The river, I-84 crossing and Route 23/206 corridors make the township both a rural outdoor destination and a gateway between three states.
