History & Identity

North Bergen Township was formed in 1843 from Bergen Township. Its once-larger territory was gradually divided as neighboring Hudson County municipalities developed. The 1780 Battle of Bull's Ferry took place along the Palisades near today's Boulevard East, while the former North Hudson Park—today James J. Braddock Park—became a defining civic landscape in the 20th century.
