Two historic villages, one borough: an intimate Somerset Hills community known for Natirar, equestrian traditions, preserved landscapes, rail access and a walkable Main Street core.
Welcome to Peapack-Gladstone
Peapack and Gladstone were joined as a borough in 1912 after being part of Bedminster Township. Today the municipality covers about 5.8 square miles and had 2,582 residents in the 2020 Census.

The borough operates with a mayor and six-member council supported by a full-time administrator. Municipal departments cover clerk/administration, finance and tax collection, construction, planning and zoning, public works, police, fire and emergency services, recreation and other local services.
Education
Public-school students attend the Somerset Hills Regional School District. The district’s three schools are all in Bernardsville:
- Bedwell Elementary School — PreK–4
- Bernardsville Middle School — grades 5–8
- Bernards High School — grades 9–12
The borough is also home to two private schools: Gill St. Bernard’s School (PreK–12) and The Willow School (age 3 through grade 8).
History & Character
The borough was incorporated in 1912 from portions of Bedminster Township. “Peapack” is commonly traced to the Lenape-derived “Peapackton,” often interpreted as “marriage of the waters,” while Gladstone was named for British statesman William Ewart Gladstone.
Historic village buildings, estates, equestrian properties and open land remain defining parts of the local landscape.
Parks, Open Space & Recreation
Natirar
Somerset County parkland and trails surrounding the historic estate. The Great Meadow Trail is about 1.3 miles and the Upper Field Nature Trail about 1 mile.
Liberty Park
Borough park and recreation space on Mendham Road; current borough rules allow fishing subject to state requirements.
Komline Park
Neighborhood recreation area on Apgar Avenue serving local residents.
Equestrian Heritage
The borough is home to the U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation, Hamilton Farm and long-established equestrian institutions.
Community Institutions
Major local organizations and employers include Matheny, Komline, Natirar/Pendry Natirar, the U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation, local schools and several long-established village businesses.
Transportation
Peapack-Gladstone is served by NJ Transit’s Gladstone Branch, with both Peapack and Gladstone stations inside the borough. U.S. Route 206 is the principal north-south road, with I-287 and I-78 accessible from nearby Bedminster.
