Pitman grew from a 19th-century Methodist camp-meeting community into a compact borough known for the Pitman Grove Historic District, Broadway Theatre, Alcyon Lake Park and the shops and restaurants of Uptown Pitman.

History & Pitman Grove
Pitman’s identity is closely tied to the Pitman Grove camp-meeting community established in 1871. The Grove’s distinctive radial street pattern centers on the historic camp-meeting auditorium, and the Pitman Grove Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
The Borough of Pitman was incorporated in 1905. Today the preserved Grove sits beside a lively downtown that has become a destination for independent shops, restaurants, theater and community events.
