History, Glenburn & the 1923 borough
Riverdale became a borough in 1923 after separating from Pequannock Township. The New Jersey Legislature authorized the borough on March 12, with the local referendum approved on April 17, 1923. The borough preserves founding documents, early budgets, building codes and fire-department records through its municipal history project.
Riverdale's official historical collection traces the area's story from early settlement through the Revolutionary era and later development.
Riverdale separated from Pequannock Township and established its own municipal government.
The borough's historic fire truck, authorized soon after incorporation, remains preserved and appears at special occasions.
Riverdale received Morris County Historic Preservation Trust funding to continue protecting borough historic resources.
Glenburn Estate The borough-owned historic Glenburn property at 211 Hamburg Turnpike is one of Riverdale's most important community and preservation sites. It hosts the Original Riverdale Farmers Market, and the borough has pursued continuing rehabilitation work for the house, barn and associated structures.
