Visit Saddle River, New Jersey

Saddle River is not a conventional sightseeing town. Its appeal is quieter: historic architecture, a preserved residential landscape, local parks, fine dining and proximity to the cultural and recreational destinations of northern Bergen County.

For an overnight stay, the borough currently has one verified hotel: Residence Inn by Marriott Saddle River on Boroline Road.

What to see & do

Bishop House

176 E Saddle River Road

The circa-1835 Ackerman-Dewsnap/Bishop House is a National Register property and serves as a community cultural center.

Saddle River Center Historic District

A concentration of historic buildings and landscape features that conveys the borough's older village and estate history.

The borough's principal recreation complex with ball fields, football/soccer space, tennis, field house, shelter, Great Lawn, bandshell and parking.

Historic residential roads

East and West Saddle River roads, Chestnut Ridge Road and nearby lanes preserve the wooded, low-density character for which the borough is known.

Saddle River Day School campus

147 Chestnut Ridge Road

A historic estate setting now used by the independent PreK-12 school; campus access is governed by school operations and events.

Fine dining in town

Saddle River Inn and Saddle River Cafe give visitors two destination dining choices within an otherwise residential borough.

Historic Saddle River

Saddle River's visitor value is strongly tied to its surviving architecture and landscape. Historic resources include Dutch Colonial-era houses, nineteenth-century farm and estate properties, cemeteries, former mill sites and later country estates.

Abraham P. Ackerman House

136 Chestnut Ridge Road

An early nineteenth-century property associated with the Ackerman family.

Ackerman-Pell House

139 W Saddle River Road

A nineteenth-century historic property tied to milling, blacksmithing and local civic history.

Bishop House

Bergen County identifies this National Register building as the community's cultural center.

Do not confuse Saddle River with Upper Saddle River. The Hopper-Goetschius House Museum and Old Stone Church are in Upper Saddle River, even though both municipalities share ZIP code 07458.

Rindlaub Park & recreation

Current borough field-use materials identify three baseball/softball diamonds, a football field, soccer/multipurpose field, shelter area, field house, Great Lawn, bandshell, main and overflow parking, and tennis courts.

Organized use: fields and facilities may require borough approval or permits. Check current recreation rules before planning a group event.
