Roxbury is a western Morris County destination where Lake Hopatcong, Horseshoe Lake, historic canal villages, wooded trails and convenient highway access come together. Horseshoe Lake is Roxbury's major municipal recreation center and a worthwhile stop even for visitors who are not using the beach.
A half-mile walking path and about 1.7 miles of paved bikeway/walking/running path serve the complex.
A branch of Patriots' Path connects with Horseshoe Lake and extends roughly five miles toward Chester.
Playground, sprinkler park, fishing, basketball and athletic fields make the complex useful for a wide range of ages.
A large pavilion, covered stage and scenic island gazebo support community gatherings and seasonal events.

Morris Canal & Roxbury history
Roxbury is one of northern New Jersey's best places to see how the Morris Canal shaped settlement, transportation and industry. Ledgewood, Shippenport, Landing and Port Morris all grew in part because of the canal.
Trails pass canal remains and the landscape of the inclined-plane system once used to move boats across major elevation changes.
A roughly quarter-mile trail at 203 East Main Street follows part of the old towpath and includes historical interpretation.
